Structure is Your Friend
A well-thought-out schedule is the cornerstone of a well-run classroom. Little ones thrive on routine, and a predictable day helps them feel secure.
When crafting your schedule, remember to consider their short attention spans. Alternate active and quiet activities, and build in plenty of time for free play. Also, keep transitions to a minimum. The less time spent moving from one activity to another, the more time for learning and fun!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
And this is especially true for our little non-readers!
Once you have a solid schedule in place, consider adding visual support. Children love pictures, and a visual schedule can be a lifesaver.
It helps ease separation anxiety, provides a sense of control, and makes transitions smoother. A picture of circle time, followed by snack, and then outside play can work wonders for keeping all those ‘what are we doing next?’ questions at bay.

Procedures, Procedures, Procedures
We all know that routines and procedures are essential for a well-run classroom.

Create a Chill Spot
Big emotions are a normal part of childhood. That’s why it’s crucial to have a designated calming area or “chill spot” ready to go.
This space should be inviting, simple and filled with self-regulating elements. Teaching children how to use this space to self-regulate is a valuable life skill!

Teaching social-emotional skills is an ongoing process, but starting early can prevent potential behavior issues.
